FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


All Tri-Rail trains and stations are accessible to persons with disabilities. All connecting Tri-Rail shuttle buses in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, and all Palm Tran buses in Palm Beach County, are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Persons with disabilities ride on Tri-Rail Trains at a discounted rate. The discounted fare is based on zones traveled. See below for information on
Tri-Rail’s Discount Policy and types of Identification (ID) required to receive discounts.

At the Station
All passengers are encouraged to arrive at the station at least 20 minutes prior to departure. Parking is available for passengers at all Tri-Rail Stations free of charge.

Miami-Dade County Stations:
    Golden Glades, Opa-locka, Metrorail Transfer, Hialeah Market & Miami Airport

Where to Board
Passengers who use mobility devices or are unable to climb steps should board at the mini-high ramp located at the north end of each station platform.

Train Operating Hours
Weekdays: 4:00 a.m. – 11:35 p.m.
Weekends & Holidays: 6:00 a.m. – 10:15 p.m.

Purchasing Tickets
Tickets are NOT sold onboard the trains.

Persons with disabilities have different options to purchase tickets. The options include:
  • Upon arrival at the station through the ticket vending machines (TVMs)
  • At the Tri-Rail Kiosk (NOTE: Not all Tri-Rail stations are staffed with Station Agents)


  • Station Agents are available at: West Palm Beach, Pompano Beach, Ft Lauderdale Airport, Metrorail Transfer and Miami Airport Stations

  • Persons who cannot purchase tickets through the TVM have the option of purchasing ticket(s) in advance (advance payment required). These ticket options include:

    1-888-GO-SFRTA (467-3782). Persons who are hard-of-hearing may call
    1-800-273-7545 to access the Telecommunications Device for the Deaf.

  • If tickets were not purchased in advance, and you cannot purchase tickets through the TVMs, persons with disabilities can request a self-addressed envelope from onboard security personnel, in order to mail payment after their trip (transfers purchased by Tri-Rail riders can be included in the payment envelope and the cost of the transfer can be deducted from the Tri-Rail fare).

Discount Policy for Persons with Disabilities
To ride Tri-Rail at a discounted rate, persons with disabilities are required to present the necessary documentation along with the proper photo ID. Acceptable forms of documentation include:
  • Medicare Card
  • Veteran ID
  • Broward County Transit Reduced Fare ID
  • Miami-Dade Transit Reduced Fare ID
  • Palm Tran Reduced Fare ID
  • Division of Blind Services ID
  • Mental Health ID
  • Any public healthcare agency ID
  • Physicians letter of documentation, or
  • Any paratransit certification
